Ovelia was born in Johnston County on April 18, 1922 to the late Dalley Henry Price and Essie Campbell Price. She was married to the late David E. Drew (1945 – 1972) and the late James Clark Rockwell (1978 – 2002). Ovelia was a 1944 graduate of East Carolina University. Following graduation, Ovelia worked as teacher at Nahunta School, later as the lunchroom manager at Walnut Street School, and retiring as the School Food Service Director with Wayne County Public Schools. She loved Madison Avenue Baptist Church and was a dedicated and faithful charter member. Ovelia served as the teacher of the Fidilis Sunday School Class for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Goldsboro Woman’s Club, the Officers Wives Club, and the Goldsboro Garden Club.
Ovelia lived a life of dedication to her family and friends, and to her community. She served her community many ways from volunteering with the Empty Stocking Fund, the Neuse Baptist Association, United Church Ministries, the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, and the Salvation Army. Ovelia had also served as Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had a large extended circle of family and friends and they were all very special to her. Ovelia will be missed, but greatly remembered.
A service celebrating Ovelia’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Fulkerson officiating. Private interment for the family will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Ovelia is survived by her daughters, Dava Drew Jarman and husband Bill (Deceased) of Washington and Gloria Drew Kroenke and husband Richard of Charlotte; brother, Dr. Carl D. Price and wife Faye of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ellie M. Jarman of Cary and David Kroenke and wife Lauren of Pineville; step-son, Jim Rockwell and wife Theresa of Sanford; step-granddaughter, Mariah Rockwell of Sanford; and step-grandson, Ryan Rockwell and family.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Inez Price and Eunice P. Harwell; brothers, Elbert Price, Dwight Price, and Arnold Price.
