As a result of burns sustained when her clothing unaccountably caught fire Wednesday night, Mrs. Charlotte Young, aged 92 years, widow of the late Jacob Young, of Middletown, died at 9:30 o'clock the same night, slightly more than two hours after her plight was discovered.

Mrs. Young, who lives with her daughter, Mrs. Lovetta Maught, aged 70 years and a grandson, C.J. Maught, about 47, was an invalid and was compelled to remain in her room on the second floor of the home, which is in the heart of Middletown. In her room was a small coal stove. Wednesday evening several pieces of linen were hung on a line which was stretched directly behind the stove, and it is supposed that the linen caught fire. Mrs. Young in an attempt to put out the flames, is thought to have been burned when her clothing caught fire from the burning linen. Her plight was not discovered until neighbors saw flames through the window of her room. Her grandson was out of the house at the time and Mrs. Maught was in a room on the first floor, it was said.

Neigbors ran to put out the fire and when the room was opened and the smoke cleared, Mrs. Young was found huddled back in a corner suffering from terrible burns. She was badly charred. Medical aid was secured immediately, but in spite of that her burns were so severe that death ensued about 9:30 o'clock. The bed-clothing and part of the bed was also damaged by the fire.

Besides one brother, Joshua D. Ahalt, Mrs. Young is survived by one son and four daughters: Ira J. Young, near Burkittsville; Mrs. Maught, Mrs. John P. Flook, Mrs. Hiram E. Remsberg and Mrs. Katie Arnold.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church; interment in the Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
