Some researchers say Henry Jr. is proven by several records to be the son of Henry Isbell Sr.

Bound For the Promised Land by Joan Cobb, page 339: "We have found Henry Isbell, Jr, to be in Orange County prior to 1741; then in Amelia County from 1741 to 1745; in Lunenburg County from 1747 to 1765; in Charlotte County (without moving) from 1765 to 1785 and in Halifax County 1785-90. Since Henry and Hannah Isbell were the only Isbell family in this area during this time of 1757 when Pendleton was born that could have been his parents, it is strongly believed that Henry and Hannah Isbell were the parents of Martha, Mary, Godfrey, James, Daniel, Pendleton, and Henry Isbell III."
Sarah Coon wrote, Sept. 4, 2003, that in Lunenburg County "Henry Isbell, Jr. served as clerk of the Little Roanoke Church. Henry and Hannah Isbell's names appear on the list of the founding members of the Meherrin Baptist Church.Court records show that Henry Isbell, Jr. was in Lunenburg County, VA, then his land fell into Charlotte County when it was formed."

A number of family trees say Henry Isbell Jr. died 1790 in Halifax County, Virginia, but it appears that he went to Wilkes County, N.C. for a while, where his brother James Isbell also moved, and was there in 1784:
Loose Civil Action Papers for Wilkes County, North Carolina (State Archives, Raleigh), this handwritten document:
"Dr Sirs, I am informed by Squire Isbell that the suit brought by me against my son Godfrey Isbell goes on at my expense which much astonishes me but hope that you will excuse my ignorance not knowing your rules laws modes or other forms but pray dismiss the suite which will ? under ? obligations Yr very friend ? Henry Isbell
Ye 22 of January 1784". (Civil action papers, C.R. 104.325.2, 1780-1784)
Squire Isbell may refer to Thomas Isbell but could also refer to Zachariah Isbell. This is a letter written by Henry Isbell (Jr) to Mr. George Whitley (Wheatley), Clerk of the Wilkes County Court.

He owned more than 3,000 acres in Lunenburg Co. which later became Charlotte Co. (Cobb, p. 339). He appears to be the Henry Isbell referred to as "Henry Isbell, a Justice" in Calendar of State Papers (Vol. I, 261), Charlotte Co. Ord Bk 4, 124 (Cobb, p.336). By 1773, Matthew Marable, a large property owner, had acquired thousands of tracts of land and slaves, including "Part of the eftate of Henry Ifbell, in Charlotte." (Rind's Virginia Gazette, Jul 22, 1773, p.4 col. 2 and Aug. 26, 1773 p.4 col. 3).

Henry Isbell JR and wife and Hannah had these children, proven by documents:
1.James Isbell who made his will in 1775 which was proved in Charlotte County, VA in Feb 1777.
2.Mary Isbell who married Isaiah Moody
3.Godfrey Isbell

Strong secondary evidence or circumstantial evidence exists for these additional children:
4.Pendleton Isbell born 1757, witness of James Isbell's will. The late Ethlyn Rainey stated she had a record proving Pendleton was a brother of Godfrey. Pendleton served in George Washington's Guard. He first joined Robert Ballard's company of the First Virginia Line in the fall of 1775 (a year before he joined the Guard). Later promoted to Captain. He later joined Wilkes County with Godfrey. Later went to Pendleton Dist., S.C., with Godfrey. His son Levingston named a daughter Martha Gilliam Isbell apparently for his aunt.
5.Martha Isbell who married James Gilliam who, with Isaiah Moody above, were the administrators of James Isbell's will. Named as James' sister in his will. Pendleton, Henry and Hannah Isbell were witnesses. Mary Isbell Moody was the heir to James' small estate.

6. Henry Isbell (III) who was surety for Martha Isbell and James Gilliam's marriage bond.
7. Daniel Isbell who served under Isaiah Moody in the Revolutionary War and was in Wilkes County, NC with Pendleton and Godfrey, later in Madison County, KY with Godfrey.
8.Henry Isbell who applied for a Revolutionary War pension from Jessamine County, KY. He served in Robert Ballard's company of the First Virginia Line, the same company that Pendleton Isbell first joined in the fall of 1775 (a year before he joined the Guard). Both were at Valley Forge.
