Ruth Ellen Stewart, age 77, of Jenkins, Kentucky, passed away Saturday October 27, 2012, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. She was born on February 8, 1935, at Jenkins, Kentucky, and was a lifelong resident of Jenkins. She was a mother and a homemaker, and was a member of the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church, Burdine, Kentucky, where she had been active in the Ladies Auxillary.

She was a daughter of the late Oaker & Martha Mullins Vanhoose, and was the widow of Kernie Stewart. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Carl Eugene Stewart; a grandson, Bryan Dabney; four sisters, Alma Bentley, Mona Embry, Marie Sargeant, and Wanda Fairchild; and three brothers, Richard Vanhoose, Roy Vanhoose, and Buford Vanhoose.

She is survived by five daughters, Ruby Baker, Jenkins, Kentucky, Nina Dabney, Richmond, Virginia, Naomi Rose, Sadieville, Kentucky, Luann Thomas, Richmond, Virginia, and Joan Akers, of Jenkins, Kentucky; two sons, James Kyle Stewart and Rodney Stewart, both of Jenkins, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Juanita Anderson, of Richmond, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.
