Mrs. Sarah E. Spurgeon, wife of Wesley Spurgeon, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the family home southwest of Winamac. She had been failing for some time from the weight of her eighty-five years. A native of Miami county, where she was born on February 4, 1850, she was married as a young woman to Calvin S. Adams, who died in 1874. In the early ‘90’s she was married to Mr. Spurgeon and they moved to this county a short time later. Surviving besides the husband, are son Harry C. Adams of Winamac and daughter Mrs. Lottie G. Buzbee of North Grove. A grandson, Cassius Adams, whose mother died when he was a baby, was raised by Mrs. Spurgeon. There are twelve other grandchildren. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Fry & Lange funeral home, conducted by Rev. C. C. Jordan. Burial was in the old cemetery at Star City. (Pulaski Co. Democrat, Thu Sep 26, 1935)
