Lorraine Hatch Smith, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, lost her valiant ten 1/2 year battle with cancer on February 2, 2016 surrounded by loving family who are grateful for the ten extra years they were given.

Lorraine was born May 21, 1930 in Chino Valley, Arizona to C. Jenner and Irene Hatch. She spent her childhood among her siblings and many cousins, aunts, and uncles in Chino Valley and Prescott. She graduated from Prescott High School in 1947.

She married her husband, Larry D. Smith, in the Mesa Arizona Temple on February 1, 1952. After a short time in Utah, they spent thirteen years in the Phoenix area, then moved to Utah and lived in Murray from 1967 until the current time in the same home.

Lorraine served faithfully in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, twice as Relief Society president, and many other callings, including leading the music and playing the piano and organ in the Murray Eleventh Ward. She was active in the extraction program and then indexing, having indexed over 159,000 records and arbitrating over 425,000.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Bud Bailey Construction Company for over thirty-five years, making many lifelong friends there. Bud was a great friend and she treasured her friendship with him and his family. After her retirement, she lovingly and faithfully cared for her mother, Irene, until she passed away at the age of 105.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Larry, and five of their six daughters, Maureen (Layne) Bryson of Taylorsville, Ronda (Keith) Patrick of Layton, Sheryl Smith of Taylorsville, Terri (Steve) Soelberg of West Valley City, and Karen (Jeff) McNeal of Tonopah, Arizona; brothers, Darrell (Rinda) Hatch, David (Delcie) Hatch, and Von Hatch; and sister-in-law, Rose Marie Hatch. She was the grandmother to eighteen, great-grandmother to twenty-two, and great-great-grandmother to one. She was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Roger William Patrick and Lora Brewer; her parents; three brothers, and a sister.

The family would like to thank Dr. William Nibley of Utah Cancer Specialists and his staff for their loving care for Lorraine for over ten years. Also, the caregivers from Quality Hospice for their sweet care in her last days. They would also like to thank the members of the Murray Eleventh Ward for their friendship and support throughout her life, and the meals, visits, and love given during her illness.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Murray Eleventh Ward Building, 5750 South Nena Way, with the funeral services there on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Burial will be at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road (1700 West).
