Eduard Dolezal was born March 10, 1873 in Strmilov, Bohemia, as the second son of Dr. Frantizek Dolezal and his wife, Terezie (Karasek) Dolezal. Eduard and his mother immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on November 14, 1877. They settled in Iowa City, where Eduard ("Eddie") died on January 14, 1891, at the age of 17 years. He was originally buried on Lot 4 of Block 9 in Oakland Cemetery, and that crypt is still there with an inscription including Eddie's dates of birth and death. His body, however, was removed to Lot 1 of Block 24 in Oakland Cemetery (site of the Black Angel memorial) around 1913.
