Dr. Roger D. Congdon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2009. Roger was born in Fort Collins, Colo., to John Solon Congdon and Ellen Avery (Kellogg). Roger married Gwendolyn Britt on Jan. 2, 1948, and they raised 12 children, Rachel Lidbeck, Jim, Steve, Jon, Phil, Rob, Brad, Ruth Mahner, Rebecca Brooks, Rhoda Miller, Marianne Potter and Mark. Roger and Gwen thank the Lord for their 56 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Roger received his bachelor's degree from Wheaton College (founded by his great-grandfather, Jonathan Blanchard), and his master's and doctorate in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. He was a Bible and archeology professor at Multnomah Bible College in Portland, 1950-87; chairman of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greater Portland, 1978-97; founder and president of Preaching Print, Inc., 1953-2009; and founder/speaker on his semi-weekly radio broadcast, Bible Truth Forum, 1989-2009.

A lifelong musician, Roger taught piano, violin and organ, was a composer and arranger of hymns for his family orchestra, and performed on the viola in the Mt. Hood Pops Orchestra for over 15 years (even at age 91).

A memorial service for Roger will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, in Emmanuel Baptist Church, 14810 N.E. 28th St., Vancouver WA 98682; 503-254-9586. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or Gideons, International.
