Joseph Seidl, age 89 of Roselle, died Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. The Celebrant will be Father Steve Brodersen. Lectors will be granddaughters, Kristine Hackett, Laura Seidl, and Jennifer Boley. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters, Amanda Hackett, Sarah Douglas, Stacy Seidl, Kelsey Sulentich, Taylor Seidl, and Kara Seidl. Music will be by the Holy Angels Choir. Communion Ministers will be Diane Sturm and Mary Ann Sibenaller. Casket Bearers will be grandsons, Thomas Hackett, Scott Seidl, Matthew DeBoth, Nicholas DeBoth, Joe Seidl, and Keagen Seidl. Burial will be at Holy Angels Cemetery in Roselle with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

Joe was born on January 24, 1923, at Dedham, Iowa, the son of Ludwig and Mary (Wiskus) Seidl. He spent his younger years in the Dedham community and attended St. Joseph School. Following his formal education he worked as a farm hand in the Dedham area. Joe entered the U.S. Air Force in December 1948 and served 13 months on active duty and 5 years on reserve duty being honorably discharged in December 1954. Joe and Phyllis Krause were united in marriage on January 25, 1955, at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Carroll with Father Frank Greteman officiating. In 1958 the family moved to Roselle where Joe was employed as a farm hand, operated a corn shelling business, and worked for the Cal Car Farm Service in Roselle. In the early 1970's he began his employment as a maintainer operator for the Carroll County Secondary Roads Department in the Roselle/Halbur area until his retirement in 1988. In retirement Joe worked part time at the Roselle Tavern and worked at other farm related jobs. He was a member of Holy Angels Parish and the Carroll American Legion. Joe enjoyed his family, fixing small engines, fishing, and playing cards.
Joe is survived by his children, Doris (Rick) Hackett of Cambridge, James (Nicki) Seidl of Evergreen Park, Illinois, Jerry Seidl of Carroll, Diane (Mike) Sulentich of Albia, and Ron (Tammi) Seidl of Halbur; 16 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Meyer of Carroll; and a brother, Henry Seidl of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Phyllis Seidl, in March 2003; his parents; a grandson, Daniel Seidl; three brothers, Rubert Seidl, George Seidl, and Ludwig "Hookie" Seidl; and five sisters, Alvina Bies, Emma Nair, Martha Jenkins, Eleanora Mayer, and Hilda Dillon.
