Mrs. Delia Hartigan Summoned By Death – Beloved Woman Passed Away Suddenly On Last Friday Evening

This community was shocked last Thursday evening when it was announced that Mrs. Delia Hartigan had been fatally stricken while at the supper table and that death had followed the attack within a few moments. She had not complained of illness and throughout the day seemed to be perfectly normal.

Mrs. Hartigan was 65 years old and was born at Peru where she grew to womanhood and became the wife of Dennis Hartigan.

Following their marriage they moved to this vicinity and lived their entire lives here, Mr. Hartigan having passed to his reward some years ago. Four children were born to this union: William, Vincent, Harold, at home; Loretta, wife of John Nolan, who lives southeast of Wenona. Mrs. Hartigan kept the family together, toiling cheerfully to accomplish this purpose and at the same time to instruct and guide her children that they might be a credit to their parents and to themselves. How well she succeeded is recognized and respected by the people of the community. She lived to know that these children loved her as she loved them.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church Monday morning, Rev. Father Sheen of Rutland, in the absence of Rev. E.S. Dunn, officiated. A large concourse of friends and relatives were present.

Burial was made at St. Mary’s cemetery.
Casket bearers were: M.J. Danaher, Wm. Egan, Frank Schultz, Charles L. Sullivan, James and Jay McClean.

Friends and relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. R.J. King and daughter Ruth, Mamie Walther, Peru; Mrs. Ann Hartigan and sons, Phillip, James and Clarence, Kinsman; Mrs. Margaret Walsh, son Keenan, Miss Alice Keenan, Bertie Danaher, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. James Condon and daughter, Blackstone; Mr. and Mrs. Milford Coughlin, Mrs. Delia McGrath, Mrs. Mary Cain and daughter, Catherine, Streator; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Detig, Mayme, John and Jay McClean, Rochelle.
