Bobby Joe Phipps, 63, of Crossville, TN, passed away Jan. 18, 2016. He was born Sept. 14, 1952, in Cumberland County, TN, the son of Joseph Henry and Annie Cherry Phipps. He was retired from the United States Army Special Forces and was a member of the American Legion and Special Forces Association. He also has a great interest in woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Edie Phipps; sons, Mitchell Phipps and his fiancee Kim Tollet, and P.J. Phipps and his wife Lisa; daughters, Anna "Chris" Phipps and her fiance Gary Platz, and Bobbie Jo Phipps; brothers, Billie Phipps and his wife Margot, and James Phipps and his wife Mauvalene; grandchildren, Mary Beth Winningham and her husband Jordan, Tesla Sherrill, Billy Joe Phipps, Nate Phipps, Dakota Phipps and Olivia McCoy; and great-grandson, Jace Winningham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Allen Phipps, and brothers, John and Clarence Phipps.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Hood Funeral Home. Bro. Mark Williams officiated, with burial in Woody Cemetery. Active United States Army Special Forces gave full military honors and served as pallbearers.
