Abigail married as a 2nd wife to Josiah Calderwood on 10 July 1825, North Haven, married by Zenas Colby. Josiah was b 5 Sept 1801, Vinalhaven (Calderwood Neck), the s/o Jonathan Calderwood & Charity Carver Hall. He d 13 Jan 1894, North Haven.
Josiah had married first Abigail's sister, Sarah, who was b abt 1802 & died prior to their marriage in 1825. Josiah & Sarah had a daughter, Abigail, b abt 1820 & died after 1840. Abigail Brown (wife) helped to raise her sister's daughter, Abigail Calderwood.
Josiah & Abigail adopted Jefferson Tolman Coombs who was b 15 May 1829, Vinalhaven and d 9 Feb 1928, Rockland. It is quite possible that Jefferson T Coombs is really the son of Anthony Coombs the 3rd & Mary Cosen or Colsen of Vinalhaven. In 1860, Jefferson is residing with Benjamin Coombs, 1 year younger than Jefferson. Raised by Josiah Calderwood, he retained the Coombs name.
Notes from Samuel Beverage, 1967: Josiah first married Sarah Brown. (I do not know her parents for sure but think she may have been a daughter of John and Lydia (Carr) but I did not see a marker for her near Josiah. They had no children but took Jefferson Coombs to bring up. He lived on what we know as the C S (Corydon S) Staples summer place, but more often known as the Coomb's place as this is where Jefferson was brought up and later owned. [Note: upon much study of records & Old Brown Cemetery placement, Sarah was a maiden daughter of John & Lydia (Carr) Brown. Josiah married her sister, Abigail. They are all buried in the same row, with the placement as follows: John Brown, Lydia (Carr) Brown, Miss Sarah Brown, Josiah Calderwood, Abigail (first wife), Mary S (2nd wife), Alvin G Calderwood (son of Josiah & Mary) and Margaret A (daughter of Josiah & Mary).
On 31 Oct 1829, Josiah is found on "Vinalhaven's" Voting List.
In 1830, Josiah is found on "Vinalhaven" for the census. He appears to be living at Calderwood Neck, Vinalhaven with 1 male under 5 (Jefferson Coombs), 2 males between 20 & 30 (himself & ?); 1 female between 10 & 15 (Abigail)and wife Abigail between 20 & 30.
On 12 Oct 1835, Josiah contributed money to the North Haven Pulpit Harbor Baptist Church in order to purchase adjoining land on which to build a parsonage. Thus, he was a member of said church.
In 1840, Josiah is on the northeast side of North Haven, between Jeremiah Hooper and Simon Annis. He has 1 male between 10 & 15 (Jefferson) and himself aged between 30 & 40; 1 female between 20 & 30 (which should have been between 30 & 40 as Abigail was 35).
Following Abigail's untimely death, Josiah married for a 3rd time Mary Shaw on 27 Mar 1841, Vinalhaven (intentions). Mary was b 20 Nov 1814, Vinalhaven, the d/o Otis Shaw & Lydia Carver. She d 8 Aug 1880, North Haven.
