She was a lifelong resident of Norfolk.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Basnight and Mrs. Jesse Hale of Norfolk, and Mrs. G. W. Spaulding of Royal Oaks, Mich.; two sons, John A. Elam of Virginia Beach and George Milton Elam of Norfolk; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards and Mrs. Helen Atkinson of Chesapeake, Mrs. Lucy Hanley of Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Evelyn Keel of Portsmouth; a brother, George Whitehurst of Chesapeake; and 15 grandchildren.
The body was taken to Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Basnight, 6277 Taylor Drive.
