Willie Katherine Griffin Bentley, 89, passed away Dec 25,2015 at Autumn Cove Retirement community in Anniston AL. Katherine was born in Felton, Haralson County, Georgia on February 2, 1926 to Minerva Addison and Freddie Griffin. She was the fifth of ten children. She attended local schools and graduated from Buchanan High School where she played on the girls' basketball team. In 1943 she married Curtis Howard Bentley of Buchanan who proudly served as an officer in the merchant marine corps during World War II. Together they raised six children - 3 boys and 3 girls. Katherine's passions in life were her Christian faith and her family. She enjoyed gardening; crafts; playing bridge; holidays with family; southern cooking and visiting relative and friends. She supported her husband's career with The Southern Company which took them to Carrollton GA; Sylacauga, Mobile and Gadsden AL. She enjoyed sharing her Groundhog Day birthday with her granddaughter Kathy and Niece Jenny. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Curtis; Daughter Carolyn; Son Howard; Son in law Marion; Sisters Gladys, Ethel, Frances; brothers Marvin, Norman, Gerald, Billy and Johnny. She is survived by her brother Charles and wife LaDell Griffin (Carrollton GA); sisters in law Estelle Griffin (Felton GA) ; Gwen Griffin (Carrolton GA); Jean Griffin (Columbia SC) and Frances Griffin (Cedartown GA); daughter Phyllis and husband Fred Turner (Bainbridge GA); daughter Kaye Saunders (Anniston AL) son Kenneth and wife Jeanne Bentley (Houston TX); son David and wife Linda Bentley (Charlotte NC); 8 grandchildren - Will Turner Jr (Penscola FL) ; Kathy Turner Tilley and husband Rick (Atlanta GA; Curt Bentley III (Tianjin China); Kristen Bentley Calvert and husband Mike (Atlanta GA); Sarah Turner Law and husband Mike (Bowling Green KY); Melissa Turner (Wilkesboro NC); George Saunders (Dahlgren VA); Mary Katherine Saunders (Cleveland OH); 6 great grandchildren Drew, Gavin, Meredy and Madison Law; Vena and Margaret Rose Tilley. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
