Henry first came to North Haven from Topsham between 1800 & 1804. He was a mariner, master of the 94-ton fishing schooner "Barbara", built at North Haven (presumably named for cousin Barbara (Alexander) Douglass who had also removed from Topsham to North Haven). He was a yeoman in later years.

On 28 Feb 1806, Henry made two transactions with his father-in-law, Thomas Beverage. The first, for $300, was for 100 acres which included a 1/8th share of the family saw mill (run by Thomas) and 1/4 share of the family grist mill, both of these were located on the then-known-as North Harbour Stream (no known as the Mill Stream.) Also on that date, for $2000, Henry purchased 115 acres of land which included a house, a barn and numerous outbuildings. The land butted against Mercy's half-uncle George White, going up to North Shore and over to where the mills were located.

it would appear that mariner Henry Alexander did not want to have a share of the two mills as he sold back the following year (15 Dec 1807) to his father-in-law the 115 acres, house, barn, outhouses & both mill shares for $1500, a $500 loss for Henry.

On 1 Aug 1810, Henry and brother-in-law Nathaniel Beverage purchased 25 acres from Malatiah Luce. This land was between Nathaniel & Henry's and Malatiah.

On 28 June 1814, registered his mark of cattle, sheep & swine: "a hole in both ears."

On 2 Mar 1833, it was enacted by Maine's Senate and House of Representatives: "That Lemuel Cooper, Elisha Carver, Ezra Calderwood, James Beverage the 2nd, Barnabas Philbrook, Joseph Philbrook, John Kent & Henry Alexander, their associates, successors and assigns, be and there hereby are incorporated into a Company, by the name of Vinalhaven Mutual Marine Insurance Company." Nothing is known about this company.

In 1835, Henry was a part of a large number of individuals who raised funds to purchase 10 acres of adjoining property of the North Haven Pulpit Harbor Baptist Church for a parsonage and stables.

In 1840, Henry was enumerated east of the mills on the Mill Stream, north of Middle Road (by the gravel pit._ He had 3 individuals working in agriculture and 2 working in "sea navigation." Most of his unmarried adult children were residing with them.

On 1 June 1854, Henry Alexander was included in North Haven's Tax Assessment, but in 2016, the 1st page was missing. He had 23 sheep and 1 swine. He owned no sailing vessels. Real estate value: $600. Personal property $100. Total Tax Assessment: $700.

Henry's North Haven Town Offices: Bondsman for Constable & Tax Collector: 1811 (South Island), 1814 (North Haven); School Agent for the North Isle: 1838 (North District); Surveyor of Highways: 1812, 1815, 1818, 1820, 1824; Surveyor of Lumber: 1831 (North District); Juror: 1845
