PEORIA – Roy Edwin Baer, 89, passed away Saturday morning Jan, 16, at his home.

He was born July 3, 1926, in Forrest, IL to Jacob & Sarah Baer. He married Phyllis Ann Arbogast on Dec 7, 1941.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis, one son, Michael Roy, his parents, 4 sisters, Mildred (Joe) Staker, Edna (Paul) Arnett, Margaret (Fred) Schlumpf, and Kate (George) Hoerr.

He is survived by 3 sisters, Eunice (Don) Roseboom, Doris (Walt) Davis and Wilma (David) Perham; 8 children: Cheryl Baer, Becky (Gene) Sidler, Susan (Rick) Courtney, Mary (Mike) Johnson, Marcia Hilger, Barb (Terry) Frans, Kevin Baer, and Pam (Chuck) Eddy, 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was owner and operator of Baer Excavating Company. He was a member the VFW Post 815.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 22, 2016, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria with Rev. Howard Love officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, January 22, at the mortuary.

The U.S. Navy and American Legion Post #2 will provide military honors. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
