Howard grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and attended Wyandotte High School. In 1960, the family moved to Overland Park until 1984 when he and Mary moved to Port Isabel, Texas (near Padre Island). They enjoyed 12 fantastic years of retirement. In 1996 they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas until Mary's passing in 2004. Howard returned to Kansas City later that year.
In 2007, he married Francis Kamphaus, who has two sons by a previous marriage, Danny and Richard Kamphaus. Survivors included Francis, son Dan Dingwerth (Diana), daughter Debbie Castillo, sister Virginia Rupp, granddaughters Laurie Hoover, Heather Otto and DeAnna Guthrie, and four great grandchildren. Howard had a sharp wit and will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on January 20, 2016 at the Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Graveside services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
