Dixie Reid Hansmire was born December 5, 1931, in Fairbury, Nebraska, to Wilber and Iva (Axtell) Reid. Dixie was the second of three children.

Dixie attended Fairbury Public Schools from grades K-12. She graduated from Fairbury High School in May of 1949. On June 12, 1949, she married Dale Hansmire in Fairbury, Nebraska. To this union two children were born—Rise and Greg.

Dixie enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, helping Dale with the farm and livestock, but most of all Dixie was a loving, supportive mom and wife. She was always there for her family—their needs came first. Dixie was sure no school or 4-H activity went unattended by Mom or Dad.

Dixie belonged to a group of local farm ladies who met once a month to embroider/crochet, etc., and to do a lot of chatting. She so looked forward to that Wednesday afternoon each month.

Her husband Dale unexpectedly passed away in November of 1977. Dixie stayed on the farm until the early 1980’s, when the farm was taken over by her son Greg. Dixie was so very proud when this fall the farm she helped build with Dale was passed to her grandson Michael.

Dixie moved to Fairbury, where she lived until her passing. During these years she worked part-time cleaning the First National Bank until her retirement in 2012.

Dixie loved her home, her yard, and her flower gardens. She had a fabulous green thumb and extensive knowledge of how to make those plants grow and thrive. Dixie shared many of those plants with others so they could enjoy her love of flowers as well.

The only other thing Dixie loved more than her flowers was her family—daughter Rise, son Greg (Teresa) Hansmire, grandson Michael (Beth) Hansmire, and granddaughter Megan (Robert) Johnson. Dixie was so very fortunate to be with us long enough to enjoy her great grandchildren whom she cherished so very much—Molly, Morgan, and Macy Hansmire and Maya and Marshall Johnson.

Dixie is also survived by her sister Dorothy Reid of Fairbury, brother Finis (Linda) Reid of Hubbell, nieces Shawna (Jeff) Horky of Fairbury, Jessica (Eric) Freitag of Windsor, Colorado, and Jeanne Wiedel of Hebron and their families, nephew Gerald Hansmire of Seattle, Washington, and niece-in-law Rachel Hansmire of Valencia, California.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday December 30, 2015 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Fairbury. Burial at the Fairbury Cemetery-Fairbury, NE.
