William Abernathy served in the 42nd Highland Regiment during the American Revolutionary War. He came to Saint John, New Brunswick, in the fall of 1783 and then to the Nashwaak where he was granted lots 38 and 57 of the Dugald Campbell grant. Later, he moved down river below Taymouth, about a mile north of the Dunbar Stream on Highway 8. 115 acres granted June 8,1787.
William married Mary Young Oct.21,1788- d/o John Young and Sarah Foss:

1) Jane or Jennie Abernethy b. 1807, d. 1889, m. Timothy Tierney b. 1798, died 1868
2) John Abernethy b. 1811, died 14 May 1875, married Mary Ann McIntyre born c1818, d. 24 Dec 1913: settled at Nashwaak, NB and had twelve children:
3) William Abernethy b. 28 May 1813 died before 1821
4) James Abernethy born 2 Mar 1815, m. Mary mcDermitt
5) Alexander Abernethy m. 16 Sep 1846 Catherine Sutherland
6) Margaret Abernethy m. 25 Aug 1835 John Stewart:
7) Mary Ann Abernethy b. 9 Aug 1819, m. 15 Aug 1837 Charles Mitchell born 1814:
