Son of Samuel & Louise M Graff McClure, youngest of 3 children.

Alec enlisted in the Civil War in Virginia, IL on 8/23/1862 as a Private. On 9/2/1862 he mustered into "K" Co. IL 101st Regiment. Alec was discharged for disability on 6/16/1863 on account of exposure after having the measles.

Alec married Sarah Ellen Mathews on 14 Feb 1867 and they had 5 children.

Alec and Sarah came to Iowa in 1872 and in the spring of 1873 they moved on the farm where they lived except for sojourning in Texas and Florida.

He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and after coming to Braddyville he united with the Braddyville Methodist Church, which he remained active till his death. Alec was always interest in and a faithful worker in the up-building of his community and state.
