Bobbie N. Nolen, age 55 of Waco, died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, at her residence in Woodway. Services at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 1996, at Wilkirson-Hatch Chapel, with Rev. Michael Toby officiating. Burial at Waco Memorial Park.
Mrs. Nolen was born October 21, 1940, in the Woodway Community to John W. and Ethel Battle. She graduated from Midway High School in 1959 and received her B.A. Degree in Elementary Education from Baylor University in 1962. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1978 with a Masters Degree in reading. She married James H. Nolen on August 26, 1961. He died on December 3, 1995. She taught school for many years, having taught the 3rd grade in Nebraska for 1 year in 1964. She taught 6th grade and remedial reading for 4 years (1977-1981) in San Antonio and taught 3rd grade for 13 years at Midway I.S.D. (Hewitt and Spring Valley elementary campuses) from 1981-1995. Mrs. Nolen was a member of Woodway First Baptist Church, Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), Alpha Delta Kappa, Local Chapter of Delta Delta, where she was recording secretary until her illness. She was also named in Who's Who Among American Teachers.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, James Michael and Amanda Nolen of Hewitt, John Mark Nolen of Houston and Joseph Matthew Nolen of Dallas; sister, Shirley Battle Dawson of Woodway; and granddaughter, Ashley Nolen of Hewitt.
Memorials to Woodway First Baptist Church Building Fund or Dr. & Mrs. James Nolen Endowed Scholarship Fund, Baylor University, or Community Hospice, c/o Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
