Joe Robert Appling, 86, of Crosbyton, Texas, passed away on January 7, 2016. He was born April 25, 1929, at Mt. Blanco, to Samuel Gordon and Birdie Marie Appling. After graduating from Crosbyton High School and attending two years at Wayland Baptist University, he served his country in the US Army. In 1960, he met and married Norma Jean Ballah in Hobbs, New Mexico, and eventually raised three children: David, Mark and Robbye.

Joe was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Floydada and the men's Sunday School class. A quiet man, he spent his life serving the Lord as a farmer and devoted provider for his family, constantly concerned for the welfare of others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S. G. and Birdie, as well as brother, Wayne.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean; two sons, David of Mt. Blanco and Mark and wife, Cindee, of the Big 4 community; daughter, Robbye of Lubbock; one sister, Catherine Miller, of Plainview, TX; six grandchildren: Will and wife Lindsay, Laurie, Christy, Tim, Ben and Landry Appling; two great-grandchildren: Eli and Lincoln; two cousins in California and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Floydada. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2016 from 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. in the parlor of First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Joe's name to Texas Boys Ranch or Salvation Army.
