Mormon Pioneer Journey:
The Uriah Curtis Company (1852)

About 365 individuals and 51 wagons were in the company when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs). Members of the company arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on 29 September and 1 October 1852.

Mary Lee BLAND Ewell, was age 34 when she crossed the plains with her 6 children after her husband William Fletcher Ewell had died from an illness. Mary also had a close and dear friend that she grew up with by the name of Mamie Chloe, who also traveled alongside Mary and her children. Mamie Chloe was a African American Mormon pioneer lady, whom Mary loved dearly and with all of her heart. Mary and William Fletcher Ewell's children's ages are listed below upon departure to Utah:

(3)- Sarah Elizabeth Ewell age 11

(4)- Barbara Ann Ewell age 8
