Cornelis Bruinewoud (= Brown wood, forest) was born in September 1850 in the village of Wolvega, seat of municipality Weststellingwerf, located in the southern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, son of Jan Kornelis Bruinewoud and Trijntje Reinders Bakker.

On 28 June 1873 day-laborer Cornelis Bruinewoud married at the age of 22 years in the small city of Appingedam, located in the extreme northeastern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, the five years younger Augusta Geertruida Jantje Siccama, daughter of Nicolaas Siccama and Jesina Stenekers aka Ste(e)nkes.

On 13 June 1874 Cornelis Bruinewoud (23 y, day-laborer) and his wife Geertruida Augusta [wrong order of the first two given names] Jantje Siccema had their first child, son * Jan Bruinewoud, in the village of Farmsum, municipality Delfzijl, also located in the northeastern part of province Groningen. They had in the city of Groningen, capital of the province Groningen, the following children Bruinewoud (= Brown wood, forest):
* Nicolaas, b. 28 Dec 1876, d. 19 Dec 1878;
* Cornelis Jan, 22 Nov 1878, 23 Mar 1884;
* Nicolaas, 27 Jan 1881;
* Gesina, 28 Jun 1883, 1 Apr 1884;
* Cornelis, 7 Feb 1885, 23 Feb 1885;
* Cornelis Jan, 16 Aug 1886;
* Jezina Trientje, 9 Feb 1889.
Father and husband Cornelis Bruinewoud was in those years a merchant, laborer, shopkeeper, stoker, depot keeper and an engine driver.

In 1890 Cornelis Bruinewoud (39 y, a poor laborer, Baptist), his wife and four children emigrated to the USA, New Jersey, the city of Paterson, where many other Dutch immigrant families were living. On 18 March 1890 his wife A[ugusta] Bruinewoud (34) and their children J[ohn] (16), W. [Nicolaas](9), C[ornelis] (2) and G. (1) [Jezina Trientje] Bruinewwoud arrived on the S.S. Obdam at the port of New York, Castle Garden. It's likely that Cornelis Bruinewwoud sailed before and alone to the USA to make in Paterson preparations for his wife and children to come over.

Their daughter Jezina Trientje died before June 1900, very probably in the city of Paterson, New Jersey.

In June 1900 Corneill Brownwood (50 y, born in September 1850 in Holland, immigrated in 1890, day laborer), his wife Cecuma (45, August 1855, Holland, immigrated in 1890, mother of 5 deceased and 4 living children), their children Nickolas Brownwood (19, January 1881, Holland, immigrated in 1890, day laborer), Corneilus (14, August 1886, Holland, immigrated in 1890, hammer boy) and Treintje (9, June 1891, New Jersey) were living in Ward 4 of Paterson, located about 20 miles northwest of New York and the seat of Passaic County, New Jersey.

In January 2016 FAG contributor B. Roorda found that in 1916 Mrs. Augusta G Brownwood was living [alone] at 1831 Curtis Street, Denver, Colorado. Her husband Cornelius Brownwood died intestate (zonder testament) on 8 February 1919 in Denver with a small amount of money in his estate that went to his children John C., Nicholas, Cornelius Jr. and Catrina Brownwood Rutter. His wife Augusta was not mentioned. So it looks that they were divorced.

In January 1920 his widow Augusta Brownwood (60 [has to be: 65], Holland) was a servant at the home of Joseph Garf (45, Russia) and his wife and two daughters in South Denver, 1139 St. Paul Street, Colorado. It's not unlikely that she died before 1930 in Denver, Colorado.
