KNOX CITY -- Ludie "Lou" Leaverton, 92, of Knox City, died Monday, September 4, 2006, at Brazos Valley Care Home in Knox City. Graveside services will be held at 5:00 PM Friday September 8, 2006 at the Knox City Cemetery with Dr. John Wade officiating. Services are under the direction of Mansell-Smith Funeral Home of Knox City.

Mrs. Leaverton was born July 3, 1914 in Erath County, to Claridy Jackson Lambert and Dora Ella Taylor Lambert. She married Sam Leaverton December 24, 1936. Lou was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Benjamin.

She is survived by: her three sons, Bert Leaverton and wife Judy of Knox City, Jerry Don Leaverton and wife Cindy of Henrietta, and Nick Leaverton and wife Jan of Granbury; six grandchildren, Rick Leaverton, Vicki Bell, Bill Leaverton, Lee Leaverton, Will Leaverton, and Nikki Leaverton; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Leaverton was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Sam Leaverton on June 9, 1983; a daughter, Linda Sue Blanton on July 1, 1960; three brothers and seven sisters.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the funeral home.
