John A. Shepherd, 90, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014.

Born in Maryland, he served 3 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from NAS Norfolk after 38 years of service and volunteered at the Virginia Aquarium. He was a Silver Beaver Recipient after 20 years as a Boy Scout Leader.

Left to cherish John's memory are his wife of 65 years, Shirley Shepherd; 2 sons, John L. Shepherd (Denise) and David E. Shepherd; 3 daughters, Patricia S. O'Reilly (Tom), Margaret S. Clough (Doug) and Linda S. Pumphrey (Ken); sister, Clara Hardy; brother, Paul Shepherd; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

John was an experienced world traveler and cruiser. He was a faithful member of Ocean View Baptist Church for more than 65 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Ocean View Baptist Church, food closet.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Ocean View Baptist Church by Pastor Aaron Dininny. Interment will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park.
