Janet Baker Allen of Needham died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at her home. She was 63.
Born in Boston, Ms. Allen was a lifelong resident of Needham. She graduated from Needham High School in 1960, and worked for several years as a sales representative for Centex.
In the late 1980s, she opened Jan's Java, a coffee shop at the Needham Center train station, which she ran for about 10 years.
Ms. Allen was an active member of the Needham Business Association and served on many of the association's committees. She went on to work at Coughlin Systems in Needham as a customer service representative.
She leaves her children, Shawn B. Allen of Needham, Sherri Allen of Bristol, RI, Christopher Allen of Santa Monica, Calif. and Jeffrey Allen of Lincoln, RI; her siblings, Noreen Hasey of Bangor, Maine, and David Baker and Terry Baker, both of Needham; six grandchildren; her nephew, Mark Hoeffler of Needham; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Phillips Baker and Joan Hoeffler.
Her memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 26, at Christ Episcopal Church Chapel in Needham. Burial was in Needham Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA. Arrangements were made by Eaton Funeral Home of Needham. Needham Times, MA.
