Frederick Jacob Bumb, 94, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at his home. He was born August 23, 1921, in Evansville, IN, the sixth of seven children born to the late Fred V. and Caroline (Boeke) Bumb. He graduated from Reitz High School and after the accidental death of his father, came home from Cincinnati University to take over the family farm. Frederick Jacob Bumb, 94, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at his home. He was born August 23, 1921, in Evansville, IN, the sixth of seven children born to the late Fred V. and Caroline (Boeke) Bumb.

He graduated from Reitz High School and after the accidental death of his father, came home from Cincinnati University to take over the family farm. For many years, he farmed in partnership with his brother-in-law, Albert Mueller, as Bumb & Mueller Farms. After Albert's retirement, partnership was divided and Fred established Bumb Farms, Inc. Fred served as Director on the Indiana State Fair Board for eight years, from 1974 to 1982. As a result of his service, he was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by the Governor. He served on the local Soil and Water Conservation District Committee, as well as over 25 years on the ASCS committee. He was a tenured 4H leader and received an award for 35 years of service from the Indiana 4H Foundation. He served as president of both the Vanderburgh County Fair Association and the 4H Center Board where he continued to be involved. In 2003, he was presented an honorary FFA degree by the Reitz Chapter. In 2005, he was named "Farmer of the Year". In 2012, Mayor Jonathon Weinzapfel proclaimed "Frederick Jacob Bumb Day" to honor his 90th birthday and dedication to the 4H Gala. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ where he served as a former Council President, choir member, and Sunday School Teacher.

Frederick was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Oliver Bumb; sisters, Ruth Grimm Hillyard, Marion Mueller, Emaline Kleinknecht, Betty Grabert and Dolores Sousley.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet (Frank); daughters, Dr. Karen Bumb (Thomas) Lauer grandchildren and great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2227 W. Michigan St., Evansville, IN 47712, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel and Tuesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
