Death of Jas. A. [F.] Lyons

Jas. A.[F.] Lyons died last Monday at his home on South State street after a lingering illness. The primary cause of his illness was being overheated last summer in the new greenhouse built by the Swan Peterson Floral Company. During the hot days of July, when the work of construction was in full progress and the glass was being placed, the atmosphere in the greenhouse was up to 120 degrees and Mr. Lyons became over-heated at his work. He never recovered from the effects of the heat, though he continued to work for some time afterward. Several weeks ago he was obliged to quit work entirely, and had been confined to his bed most of the time since. The funeral occurred at the Christian church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. S. E. Fisher officiating.

Jas. A.[F.] Lyons was born Aug. 14, 1852, in Cork City, Ireland. While yet a babe 9 months old, he was brought to America by his parents and settled in Indiana. In 1871, at the age of 19, he came to Ford county, Illinois where he resided until the time of his death, Dec. 30, 1901. He was married to Phoebe Newhart in 1874, and to this union 11 children were born, one dying in infancy. Eight of the children are still at home. Mr. Lyons was an honest, hard working man, and held in high esteem by his neighbors. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community.
