Mr. Smith died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in a local hospital. Born September 6, 1924 in Summerville, he was a son of the late Henry W. and Flossie Phillips Smith. He was a graduate of Summerville High School. He was a World War II veteran, having served as a sergeant in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. He was a lifelong resident of Summerville and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where he was Director of Leisure Ministries and Senior Adult Coordinator. He was the retired owner of Smith's Deluxe Cleaners. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn H. Smith of Summerville; sons, David H. Smith Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Summerville, William L. "Billy" Smith and his wife, Tresa, of Summerville, Gene P. Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Summerville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita S. White of Sumter.
