Archie Lee Hobbs, age 85, of Taylor passed away on December 28th.
Visitation will be Friday, January 1st from 5-7 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.

Celebration of life services will be Saturday, January 2nd at 10 a.m. at Providence Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Ripple officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

Archie was born on January 30, 1930 to Hode and Bessie (Barnett) Hobbs. The youngest of eight children, Archie grew up in the Beaukiss community. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany, 1951-1952, then transferred to Army Reserve until honorably discharged in 1956.

He married the love of his life, Velma Fay Jacobson, on June 26, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2014. They had been married for 59 ½ years.
Archie had a strong work ethic. For 39 years, Archie proudly wore the blue and white gingham Butter Krust bread company shirt and drove the Butter Krust bread truck making deliveries all over Taylor, Hutto, and Coupland. He retired January 1991. Archie raised cattle since the age of 13 when his father gave each of his eight children their first heifer calf. A tradition he continued with his own children and grandchildren. As part of raising cattle, he spent many hours checking on them in various pastures, cutting and baling hay, and mending fences. He also worked cattle for other people. Archie was a skilled horseman and taught his children his love for horses. He made sure to buy a horse for each of his grandchildren and taught them to ride. Archie served as a Taylor Jaycee Trailride boss for many years. His children and grandchildren looked forward to riding their horses in this annual event. In the later years, Archie raised red heeler puppies up until the very end.

Most of all, Archie adored his family and loved having them around all the time.
Archie was preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws (George and Pernie Jacobson), and his beloved daughter, Donna (age 18).

Archie is survived by his daughter, Pam Roznovak and husband, Claude of Taylor; son, Randy and wife, Dorothy of Thrall; his grandchildren-Natalie Bonkowski and husband Tony, Jennie Helbert and husband Brett, Rachel Swick and husband Alex, Cameron Hobbs and wife Crystal, and Lane Hobbs; great-grandchildren-Tyler and Olivia Bonkowski, Rayna O’Neal, Owen Swick, Jacob Vongonten and Slayde Harris.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Cameron Hobbs, Lane Hobbs, Alex Swick, Brett Helbert, Tony Bonkowski and nephew Travis Hobbs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1177, Fairfield, TX 75840.
