Velma Fay Hobbs, age 77, of Taylor passed away on Jan. 17 after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 2 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.

Velma was born on Dec. 8, 1936 to George and Pernie (Poston) Jacobson. She grew up in Taylor and graduated from Taylor High School. She married Archie Lee Hobbs on June 26, 1954. They were happily married for 59 ½ years.

For many years, she enjoyed playing the piano and teaching Sunday school for her church, First Assembly of God in Taylor. She loved watching birds and nature, riding alongside Archie in the pickup checking pastures, and cooking for her family. Her joy in life came from caring for her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all loved her so much. They called her, "Mom." She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind and strength, and shared her love of Jesus with everyone.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pernie Jacobson, in-laws, Hode and Bessie Hobbs and her beloved daughter, Donna.

Velma is survived by her loving husband, Archie; daughter, Pam and husband Claude Roznovak of Taylor; son, Randy Hobbs and his wife Dorothy of Thrall; her grandchildren, Natalie and her husband Tony Bonkowski of Thrall, Jennie O'Neal of Rockdale, Rachel and her husband Alex Swick of Thrall, Lane Hobbs, Cameron Hobbs and Crystal Harris of Taylor; her great-grandchildren Olivia and Tyler Bonkowski and Rayna O'Neal; her brothers Cecil and Leon Jacobson of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Hobbs, Lane Hobbs, Tony Bonkowski, Alex Swick, Jody Prinz, and Travis Hobbs.
