LAKE WALES - Philip Oliver "Phil" Albury, age 80, of Lakes Wales, passed away from natural causes on February 24, 2013 at his daughter's home in St. Augustine, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Phil served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He went on to serve as a firefighter for the city of Miami for 19 years, retiring as a lieutenant in the early 1970's. Phil worked as a HVAC engineer for the Polk County School Board for many years and briefly as The Building Official for the City of Lake Wales. He was a Scout Master, and founding member of Troop 408 in Miami, and was a member of both the Lions Club where he served as President and the Elks Club. Above all, Phil was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Albury of Lake Wales, FL; daughters, Dianna "Dee Dee' Twombly of St. Augustine and Lisa Albury of Winter Haven, FL; sons, Philip Albury, Jr., and his wife, Bianca, Charles Albury, and his wife, Christine, and David Albury, all of Miami, FL; grandchildren, David Jr., Courtney, Cole, Morgan, Alexandra, Paige, Ciara, Adriana and Charles Jr. He was preceded in death by brother, Cecil H. Albury, and a granddaughter, Hayley Albury.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at The Park at Lake Rosalie in Lake Wales, FL. In lieu of flowers donation in Phil's memory can be made to: Flaming Arrow Boy Scout Camp, 1201 Boy Scout Camp Rd, Lake Wales, FL 33898, or to University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Burn Center, Clinical Research Building, 1120 NW 14th Street, Suite 464A, Miami, FL. 33136.
