OBITUARY
On Wednesday night last, Mrs. Annie Wardenburg, wife our esteemed fellow townsman Fred Wardenburg, died at her residence, corner of Fourth and Mound streets, after a long illness, and now sleeps in Oak Hill cemetery.
She was only 26 years of age, of a sweet and gentle disposition, and an unusually patient sufferer. Pain racked and destroyed her physical nature, but could not subdue or shake that equanimity, which enabled her to bear her sufferings with fortitude, and to continue to the last, calm, patient, and hopeful of a bright future. Her death was not unexpected, and yet it is a heavy blow to the bereaved ones, to whom we offer our warmest sympathy. Her chair is vacant now,and the house is desolate, but sorrow will yield at last, and memory will bring to those who are left the sweet consolation of her beautiful and faithful life, and peaceful, trusting, death.
The funeral took place at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, the arrangements being under the direction of Mr. Mel. Winegar.
The remains were encased in a beautiful casket, and the floral offerings were numerous and appropriate. Rev. Ingalls officiated. Messrs. Yale, Todd and Taylor added to the solemnity of the occasion by their musical selections, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "We Shall Meet Beyond the River," and the audience was large and sympathetic.
At the conclusion of the service, Messrts. Julius Kuhn, A. F. Martin, Geo. Poehler, T. B. Platt, J. G. Hutchinson and H. H. Bayley, who acted as pall bearers, conveyed the remains to the hearse, and the sad procession passed slowly to Oak Hill, where the interment was made.
It is sad that one so young and lovely should be taken, but the mysteries of Providence are past finding out.
