"Dilla's" father was Gray Barber - born 1789 in Henry, Clarke, Georgia. Gray died June 5, 1866 in Coal City, St Clair County, Alabama. Her mother was Charlotte (Stedman) Barber - born in Newberry, Newberry County, South Carolina in 1797. Charlotte died April 1, 1853 in Ashville, St Clair County, Alabama. She married Thomas Rawlings Rice December 18, 1859, in Mississippi. The couple resided in Neshoba County, Mississippi until Thomas's death in 1913. "Dilla" removed to North Crossett, Ashley County, Arkansas to reside with her daughter. Thomas and Dilla's children were W. Harvey Fouse Rice, Thomas L. Rice, Mary Jane Rice, Ruhamer Elizabeth Rice, William H. Rice, Enoch Monroe Rice, Dionishous Eugenia Valentine Rice, Mattie Belle Rice and James Algie Rice.

Fidelia's name is shown with various spellings and renditions throughout her life as provided on various documents. It is no surprise her gravestone bears yet another spelling of her name. Her nickname "Dilla" is representated on her husband, Thomas', Confederate pension application.
