Lorene Rion, a long-time Pendleton resident, was born on January 5, 1929, in Delaware County, Oklahoma to Chester and Julie Sallie (Lunderman) Crowder. She passed away peacefully due to natural causes at Regency Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hermiston, Oregon on Sunday, September 27, 2015. She was 86 years old.

Lorene graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1947. She came to Pendleton shortly after graduation in 1947. She met her best friend, Edwin (Ed) Rion in Pendleton in 1949, and they were married in Walla Walla, Washington May 26, 1950.

Lorene worked for Pendleton School District in the school lunch program for 10 years after her children started school. She was always home each and every day before the school bus arrived and was able to be at home during the summer and anytime that there was a school holiday. Lorene prided herself in having the best garden and the prettiest flowers on 41st street where the Rion family lived for 52 years. She told a story of a little neighborhood girl that would stop and tell her how pretty her flowers were and then when no one was looking, would pick the flowers and bring them to mom because they were so pretty.

Lorene loved to go camping, fishing and water skiing first in a tent, graduating to a camper and pickup and then moved it on up to their motorhome. Even with all of the luxuries in their motorhome, she could only be gone for just so long from her home. No matter what, home is where she always wanted to be. Thanks to the unwavering and loving care provided by my brother Steve for many, many years, she was able to be in her home until the week before she passed away. Without Steve's devotion, this would not have been possible.

Lorene is survived by her children, Steve Rion in Pendleton; Karen Morthland (Kent) in Boise, Idaho. Grandchildren Michelle Wasmund (fiancé Jim Sayko), Nampa, Idaho; Melissa (Eric) Bollar, Johnstown, Colorado; Ryan (Carrie) Morthland, Boise, Idaho; Sean (Leslie) Morthland, Boise, Idaho. Great grandchildren Austin Wasmund, Nampa, Idaho; Addilyn Morthland, Boise, Idaho and Finn Bollar, Johnstown, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, who passed away in 1989; her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Graveside services will be at Olney Cemetery, Pendleton on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

Donations may be made to PAWS, c/o Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, 131 SE Byers Ave., Pendleton, OR 97801.
