Russell L. Lien was born December 24, 1918 in Vesta Township near Park River, ND, the son of the late Arthur and Nanny (Trygg) Lien. He attended rural school in Vesta Township and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1938. Russell was united in marriage to Lila Wang on November 23, 1940 in East Grand Forks, MN. The couple made their home near Park River where Russell worked on the Hans Larson Farm for 25 years. In 1966 the couple moved into Park River and Russell worked as the City Supervisor for the City of Park River, retiring in 1988. Lila passed away on Aug. 18, 2006.
Russell was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Memorial Park Cemetery Board for many years and served on the Park River Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid blood donor, donating many gallons during his life. He enjoyed gardening and playing cards, especially pinochle. The couple loved to travel when they were able.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, Alan Ross, an infant brother, brother, Glenn Lien, sister, Nollie Puckett, son-in-law, Jerry Englerth and grandson, Tyler Lien.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the Park River Volunteer Fire Department, Park River Volunteer Ambulance, Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or the Park River Bible Camp.
