DANIEL ATLEE HAINES, well known livestock dealer of this city, died suddenly Sunday afternoon at his residence, 135 West Fourth street, aged 54 years, 10 months and 18 days. While not in robust health, Mr. Haines had been confined to bed only one day and his sudden death was a shock. He was a son of the late Andrew W. and Mary E. Miller Haines, of Carroll County. He had resided in Frederick about 35 years.

He was well known throughout Maryland and adjoining states as a successful horse dealer and operator of regular auction sales of livestock. His sales extended as far as Tennessee and the southern seaboard states.

For seven years he owned and operated a sales stable on the former Charles Hargett farm east of the Fair Grounds. Three years ago he sold the business to Harry Dosh and retired to his new residence on west Fourth Street.

Mr. Haines was a consistent member of Calvary Methodist church and was active in the Leaders Bible Class of the Sunday school. He was possessed of a quiet and retiring personality.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie E. Kalbaugh Haines, and the following brothers and sisters: William E. Haines, Walkersville; Mrs. Everett Green, Miller A. Haines, Mrs. Vivalis Derr, Frederick; Berkley H. Haines, Baltimore; Mrs. Milton Crum, Dey M. Haines, Frederick.

Funeral services were held at his late home; interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery; C.E. Cline and Son were the funeral directors.
