"Joseph H. Karnofsky To Be Buried Today
Joseph H. Karnofsky, former Wilke-Barre produce merchant who died yesterday morning at 5:30 at Scranton Jewish Home. will be buried this morning. He had been a guest at the home for 18 months.
Services will be held at 11 at the funeral home, 348 South River Street, with interment in Tempie Israel Cemetery, Forty Fort. Rabbi Jerome Kerzner and Cantor Asher Balaban will; officiate.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Karnofsky was associated many years with the Karnofsky Brothers Wholesale Produce Company, South Pennsylvania Avenue. He lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Weisberger, 265 Butler Street, Kingston, following the death of his wife, the former Mae Freed, in 1947.
Born in Russia, Mr. Karnofsky came here with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Karnofsky, and first lived in Edwardsville. He later moved to Wilkes- Barre. He was a member of Temple Israel.
Also surviving are a son, James Karen of New York City, a Broadway actor; four grandchildren; a brother, Max of Wilkes-Barre; sisters Mrs. Harry Levy, Kingston: Mrs. Jennie Schiffman, Pittston; Mrs. Sara Rose, Youngstown, O."
