John Ludwig, son of Mathias & Mary Ludwig was born Apr. 12, 1841 in Lorraine, France, died in Harper, Iowa on March 7, 1922. On Jan. 1, 1850, he came to America with his parents and settled in Harper. On April 27, 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Smith. To this union were born five children, Anna and Catherine, who died in infancy, and Edward, who preceded him in death about four years ago. Two children are left, Joseph of Harper and Mary at home. He had been in the undertaking business for the past 45 years. Survived by 2 children, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Mary Kaufmann of Harper; Mrs Anna Highberger (Heuberger) of Westphalia, Kansas; Mrs. Catherine Rettler of Harper, and one brother, Matt Ludwig of Cheney, Washington.
Mary Smith was the daughter of Johann and Susan (Becker) Smith.
