Joyce J. Rogers, 87, McCracken, Kansas, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.
Mrs. Rogers was born July 31, 1928, in rural Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Phillip John and Ester (Yost) Wilhelm. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.
A 1946 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a member of VFW Post 3147 Ladies Auxiliary, La Crosse, Kansas; a girl scout leader in McCracken, Kansas, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, McCracken, Kansas, for 50+ years. As a member of the Eastern Star, she was a Grand Representative to Oklahoma, a District Aide, and a Worthy Matron twice during her membership.
On November 17, 1946, she married Chester Rogers at Rush Center, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 28, 2010.
Survivors include: one son, Leslie Rogers (Sheryl), McCracken, Kansas; two daughters, Debbie Smith (Bob), Lenora, Kansas, and Roxie Dechant (Ron), Dodge City, Kansas; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Kathryn Pickens, Douglas, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Billie Lynn Rogers; one granddaughter, Jeannie Smith; two brothers, Norman Wilhelm, and George “Bud” Wilhelm; and two sisters, Florence Schutte, and Thelma Kirby.
Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2015, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Church visitation will be Saturday, December 19, 2015, from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, McCracken, Kansas.
Funeral service will be Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, McCracken, Kansas, with Reverend Janice Farrell officiating. Interment will be in the McCracken City Cemetery, McCracken, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, McCracken, Kansas, or the McCracken Library, McCracken, Kansas.
