This is my grandmother, my daddy's mother. We called her Mama Lula. She died when I was in the fifth grade. I remember going to her big, old house. She had beautiful flowers all over her yard.
Mama Lula spoke mostly French, though she did know some English. Our ancestors spoke only French, all from Cajun French heritage. It wasn't until my parents' generation that they were taught English in school.
She and my grandfather Adonis Ducote together had three children, Elizabeth, Melvin and my daddy Thomas Ducote .
