Sylvia was born on October 7, 1924, the beloved youngest of eight children, to Ed and Sophie Pfeiffer, on a farm outside Minot, North Dakota. Her loving nature was born and nurtured in this deeply bonded family. She grew up in the Great Depression, but never felt deprived.

Sylvia received her teaching degree from Minot State Teachers College in 1946. She worked as a teacher and speech therapist, including a stint teaching in Chihuahua, Mexico, and planned to open her own speech clinic, when in 1957 she met and married the love of her life, Jim Erickson of Seattle.

Sylvia loved her life as wife and mother, and was active as a coach and school volunteer. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for 55 years, where she was active with the women's circles, the children's education programs, and the quilters.

Sylvia travelled to many international destinations with family members and friends, and loved learning from the local people. She was always eager to share in activities and attend the sporting events, concerts, and performances of her children and grandchildren.

For Sylvia, the most important thing in life was love and relationships. She left a legacy of love.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Marcia Bates (Kevin) of Everett WA, Carla Orlando (Joe) of Seattle WA, Barry Erickson (Arden) of Seattle WA; her grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler Bates, Josephine and Sophia Orlando, and Kelton, Halle and Bo Erickson. Sylvia leaves behind many beloved members of her extended family, church community, neighbors, friends, and caregivers.
