William “Quenton’’ Adams, 89, of Richland, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his home near Richland.

He was born Sept. 20, 1926, in Okemah, Okla., to Vincie and Eula Lewis Adams.

On April 12, 1947, he married Bonnie Ruth Pruitt, who preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 2001. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, David Adams; two stepmothers, Nola (Summers) Adams and Jessie (Watkins) Adams; a brother, Kenneth Adams, and an infant sister.

Quenton served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 7, 1944, until Aug. 31, 1946. After the war, he returned home where he met and married Bonnie. He worked on the construction of the Mid-America building before moving to their farm near Crossroads. Quenton started farming and also got his GED and started taking college classes. He began teaching at several of the rural schools, including Brownfield, Mt. Salem, Crossroads, and Detherage, before moving his career to Richard R-IV Schools in the fall of 1959. He taught junior high math and science and coached basketball. He became the elementary and junior high school principal in 1968, and retired in June of 1982. He also was a farmer and stockman throughout the years. During the summer months beginning in 1956, he worked helping to build what is now Interstate 44. After retiring Quenton became an insurance agent with Laclede County Mutual Insurance Co. for several years.

Quenton was saved and baptized at Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church in 1942, and was ordained a deacon in 1953. He was a faithful member and servant for the members of the church for many years. He also was the record keeper for the Crossroads Cemetery for a long time. He had belonged to the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Atkins and her husband, Rev. Larry, of Laquey; a son, Bill Adams and his wife, Christy, of Laquey; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Adams, of Cowiche, Wash., also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Quenton Adams will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, in Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Ed Ruble and Craig Perry officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads Cemetery with Full Military Honors by V.F.W. Post No. 4107, under the care and direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
