NEWTON LYMAN

Mr. Newton Lyman, one of Chariton's most respected citizens, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. M. Lyman, on Friday noon, December 21, 1900, after an illness of several weeks with Bright's disease. The announcement of the death of Mr. Lyman brought sadness to many hearts, for he was well known and highly esteemed by all.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Wilson Mills, assisted by Rev. P. J. Vollmar, were held at the residence of Mrs. Lyman on Sunday morning at ten o'clock after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.

Newton Lyman was born in Ohio in 1846. He came to Chariton with his parents in 1855. He was married to Miss Nealey Calhoun who died in 1892. Five children were born to them, three of whom are living.

Mr. Lyman had resided here for about forty-five years. He was a harness maker by trade and was in the employ of A. C. Riebel. He was quiet and unassuming and agreeable at all times. He was an estimable gentleman and in his death the city loses an exemplary citizen.

The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to the children who are so sorely bereft.
