Dorothy Mae Parrish Bettinghouse, departed this life July 11, 2004, in Springfield, MO.
She was born September 26, 1920, at Rutledge MO, the daughter of Homer and Nellie Salee Johnston.
On October 8, 1939, she was united in marriage with Gilbert Parrish, and to this union was born a son, Gordon Parrish, who passed away in September of 1977. Her husband also preceded her in death in 1970. She was later united in marriage to Clyde Bettinghouse, who preceded her in death in 1980.
In 1942, Dorothy left Missouri for the state of California, where she was associated with Sears and Roebuck as a sales associate for 32 years in Torrence, CA. She returned to Lebanon in 1992, where she enjoyed doing volunteer work as a "Pink Lady" at the hospital, delivering "Meals on Wheels", community service at the library, and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
Dorothy is survived by three step-sons, Michael Bettinghouse and his wife, Betsy of the state of Washington, Clifford Bettinghouse and his wife, Kathy of the state of Colorado, and Douglas Bettinghouse and his wife, Susie of the state of Oregon; one sister, Naomi Chandler and her husband, Ed of the state of Illinois; several nieces and nephews, including Jim Pruett of Lebanon, MO; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Parrish Maulhardt and her husband, Ronald of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren, James Elam and his wife, Gail, Jennifer Purvis and her husband, Pete, Jeffrey, Janella and John Parrish, and his wife, Sheli; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Elam and Christopher and Taylor Purvis; five step-grandchildren; and many friends.
Dorothy is also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Melvin, Ivan, Irvin and Stanley Johnston; and an infant brother; and by two sisters, Irene Bettikofer and Lucille Hutson.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held July 15, 2004, in Colonial Chapel, Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service, Lebanon, MO, with Roger Marshall officiating. Music was by Rusty Shadel, soloist, and DeLores Shadel, organist. Escorts were Jeff Parrish, Jamie Elam, Ron Maulhardt, John Parrish, Rick Clark, and Peter Purvis. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery.
