Jay Leinweber, of rural Minatare, died December 5, 2015. Memorial services and inurnment will be held at East Lawn Cemetery in Minatare. Jay was born April 13, 1931 into a large family of 17 to Hugo and Zella Leinweber on the family farm north of Lake Minatare. He attended Lake Alice and Hope school in his younger years, later to attend Scottsbluff High School thru the 11th grade, later to obtain his GED May 13, 1980. Jay was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War, earning 4 medals: 2 overseas bars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 1954. He married Anelika Gitschel Ferguson on Nov 29, 1964. During this time, he farmed, worked in the oil fields, and later to be employed with Western Sugar for 28 campaigns and 28 years with Pathfinder Irrigation. Jay’s greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. He loved singing karaoke with his children at family get-togethers. He knew many songs and had a talent for remembering songs and poems. He enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. In his younger days, he liked to spend time fishing, boating and hunting. He had a lot of passion for people and was always willing to help someone in need. He was a master of telling jokes and was always ready with a good comeback. His parents, sisters Isa, Arlene, Zella, Pearl, Eva and baby girl Leinweber, brothers Harry, Clyde, Merle, Gale, Keith, William, Halbert, Otis and baby boy Leinweber, one daughter, one granddaughter and one grandson preceded him in death.
