When Jerome George (nickname Rhome, Rome) Griffin was born on January 7, 1883, in Buncombe, North Carolina, his father, William, was 38 and his mother, Mary, was 34. He married Virginia Elizabeth Bryant Griffin on October 20, 1913, in Olustee, Oklahoma. They had three children during their marriage, listed below.

Jerome was a farmer. He was otherwise know as "Rome". He was good at making money. All he touched seemed to be successful, and he bought and sold cattle with his brother, Isaac. Isaac could judge a cow or steer's weight and not be off more than ten pounds. Money meant little to Isaac and much to Rome, so together, they were a good team. Rome, however, had very poor health and eventually died as his sister, Minnie and his mother (M.J. Case) of "lingering consumption" or bronchial asthma. He died on October 26, 1951, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 68, and was buried there. Unfortunately, when his gravestone was carved, the wrong date of birth was engraved on it (1884) but the family decided to just leave it as is. Why I don't know.

Children: Alta Evelyn Griffin, born 1915; Wayne Sanders Griffin, born 1919; and Ray Mathis Griffin, born 1925.

Gravesite Details

Rhome was his nickname. Unfortunately the gravestone was engraved with the wrong year of birth but it was just left that way.
