LaVern E. Natschke, 80, of Saint David, AZ and formerly of Aroma Park passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. He was born on April 10, 1935 in Milford, the son of William and Geneva Kirchman Natschke. LaVern married Shirley May Ulitch in Watseka on July 20, 1957 and she survives. Also surviving are one brother, Donald (Barbra) Natschke of Sheldon; one sister, Lois Messman of LaPorte, IN; sister-in-law, Gerry Natschke of Watseka; six nieces and nephews, Brenda (Rex) Miller, Karen (Jack) Ferry, Diane Natschke, Glen Natschke, Pauline McIntire and Linda (Eric) LaVoie; five great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece; and three great-great- nephews. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Marvin Natschke; and one sister, Berdella Natschke.

LaVern was a hard worker all his life. He operated several businesses through the years, including a gas station, trucking company and safety lane. He also worked for Consumers (now Vulcan), Dolese and Sheppard, and Hannah Inland Waterways, operating and servicing heavy equipment.

LaVern’s biggest passion was stock car and semi racing. He traveled throughout the country and Canada to participate in the truck races. He also raced stock cars at Santa Fe Speedway for a number of years. He was an avid follower of NASCAR on TV, and rarely missed a race.

LaVern will be remembered as a guy who was bigger than life; one who lit up the room when he walked in. His unique and original sense of humor would brighten the day for those he was in contact with. He talked to anyone and everyone and was adored by many.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm funeral service on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka with Rev. Dave Nabinger officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford.

Memorials may be made to the Kankakee Humane Foundation, Calvary Lutheran Building Fund or American Diabetes Association.
