Earl James “Bart” Baartman, of Wahkon, passed away on June 29, 2014 at the age of 77.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Bart at Faith Lutheran Church in Isle, on Monday, July 7, at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Bart is survived by his sister Dawn Burger, daughters Susan (Dick) Robertson, Karen Aguilera, and Kimberly (Skully) Wingrove, and grandchildren Dirk and Ted Robertson, Mary and Darrell Thompson, Austin and Katelyn Aguilera, and Abigail and Kayli Wingrove.
Bart served in the Army from 1954-1958. During that time, he completed basic Army administration training, built bridges as a combat engineer while stationed in Germany, and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal.
Bart married Diann in 1961 and moved to the Isle area in 1964. He taught himself the art of welding and used this talent to work on heavy equipment, later opening his own shop.
Bart enjoyed visiting with friends, working in his garage, cheering for the Twins and Packers, and spending time with family.
Bart was well known for his story telling and knowledge of the area. He had a heart of gold and was willing to help anyone if he was able. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
